Kelly's "endorsement" centers largely on the idea that LSU actually gave Kiffin the NIL money. The implication being, naturally, that they didn't give it to Kelly. LSU reportedly has a $40 million roster valuation on the 2026 squad. Kiffin pulled the No. 1 transfer portal class in the country, hauling in Sam Leavitt, Jordan Seaton, and — in what has to sting — Princewill Umanmielen, the nine-sack nightmare he personally recruited to Ole Miss. "He's going to be able to be Lane Kiffin," Kelly said warmly, in what might be the most accidental self-own in college football media history. Translation: they didn't want a Kelly. They wanted someone who wouldn't develop teenagers. Thanks for clarifying, Brian.

Paul Finebaum, who has never met a controversy he couldn't pour gasoline on, went on the Crain and Cone podcast to announce that if Kiffin fails to reach the CFP, he'll put him "at the very top" of his overrated coaches list. This is the same Finebaum who has been saying something combustible about every SEC coach since roughly the Clinton administration. The man is a public service. Never change.

Over in Columbia, Missouri, the offseason went sideways fast. Freshman linebacker JJ Bush was arrested after allegedly fleeing police at 80 to 90 mph in a 2024 Ford Mustang on East Broadway — in a 40 mph zone — and when the officer asked why he didn't stop, delivered what is already a legitimate contender for Quote of the Year: "That's just how my car is." Sir. He also reportedly told the officer "I f---ed up. Driving crazy," which, points for honesty, truly. Eli Drinkwitz issued the obligatory disappointment statement and suspended Bush indefinitely. Then, because this story needed one more spin, the felony charges were dropped Wednesday — though the Boone County prosecutor told KOMU 8 that he expects them to be refiled. Bush remains suspended. The Mustang, presumably, still just does that.

For context: two Ole Miss players were also charged with separate DUIs the day before the Mizzou incident, making early May 2026 a genuinely rough week for the SEC's relationship with road safety. Pete Golding — who inherited the Ole Miss program when Kiffin bolted midseason, somehow won the Sugar Bowl anyway, and now gets to manage all of this — deserves a plaque.

Somewhere in all of this, Auburn quietly posted their lowest-rated recruiting class in five years. New coach Alex Golesh is blaming the late hire. Sure. Definitely that. Not fourteen years of carousel energy.
